Tech readies for clash with Radford Wednesday

BLACKSBURG – The 22nd-ranked Virginia Tech lacrosse team returns home to the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility on Wednesday, February 19 for a clash with New River Valley foe Radford. Tech moved up one spot in the IWLCA Coaches Poll this week following on overtime battle at James Madison and a rout of Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
 


 
Tech's midfield trio of Paige Petty, Emma Crooks and freshman Kayla Frank have been sensational, combining for 43 points. The Hokies are the only ACC program to feature three midfielders who have scored 10 or more points. Petty, a Tewaaraton Award Watch List member leads the squad with 14 goals and Frank has the most assists on the squad with seven.

THE HIGHLANDERS
Radford enters 1-1 on the season after opening with a 15-8 victory at Saint Francis before falling to Richmond 16-3 on Saturday.
 
Lindsey Carroll leads the squad with seven points and Grace Gleason and Amanda Paino have each scored five points on the season. 
 
In goal Maddie Bowman owns a 12.0 goals against average and has made 19 saves.
 
THE SERIES WITH RADFORD

  • Tech has won all three previous meeting with Radford by an average score of 20-4.
  • Last season the Hokies routed the Highlanders 23-8 behind four players – Paige Petty, Sara Goodwin, Emma Crooks and Julia Bolte who all scored five or more points. 

 
NEXT TIME ON THE FIELD

  • The Hokies will travel to Elon to take on the Phoenix on Saturday, February 22 for a 1 p.m. tilt. 
  • Tech leads the all-time series 3-1 and have won each of the last two years. Last season's contest was a 16-8 Hokie victory at Thompson Field. In that game Emma Crooks led all goal scorers with six and Paige Petty added four. Morgan Berman made five saves in goal, earning the win.
