BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team returns home to the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility on Saturday, February 15 for a clash with in-state foe Liberty. The Hokies have opened the season 1-1 following a 17-10 victory over Davidson and Wednesday's overtime lost to No. 17 James Madison.
Against the Dukes, Taylor Caskey, Kayla Frank and Paige Petty each recorded three points and junior Sarah Lubnow's goal with 7:28 in the second half tied the game up, where it would remain before JMU converted in the extra session.

Frank leads the squad in scoring with 11 total points and two hat tricks and midfield partner Petty has seven goals, the most on the team. Petty was named to the 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch List Thursday for the second consecutive season.

Defensively, Leigh Lingo registered a career-best five caused turnovers against the Dukes. She has seven on the season. In goal, Angie Benson has made 18 saves.

THE FLAMES
Liberty enters at 0-1 on the season after a season-opening loss to Oregon 20-12 in Eugene. Anna Keebler (5) and Carly White (3) each recorded hat tricks in the game and in goal Emma Kendrick made seven saves. White also won 10 draw controls and had three caused turnovers against the Ducks.
The Flames who went 14-5 in 2019 were picked to finish second in the Atlantic Sun Conference behind Jacksonville. White and defender Sarah Steenson were chosen as preseason All-Conference players.
THE SERIES WITH LIBERTY
- Tech has won all seven of the previous meetings with Liberty, including a dominant 15-2 decision in 2017 the last time the two shared a field together. Attacker Kristine Loscalzo led six Hokie goal scorers with four in the game and Taylor Caskey registered two of her own.
NEXT TIME AT THE BEAMER-LAWSON INDOOR PRACTICE FACILITY
- The Hokies are back home at the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility on Wednesday, February 19 when they play host to the Radford Highlanders.
- Tech has won all three of the previous meetings between the two New River Valley Schools by an average margin of 16 goals.
- In last season's meeting, the Hokies won 23-8 behind five goals apiece from midfielders Paige Petty and Emma Crooks, while attacker Sara Goodwin had six total points (3 goals, 3 assists). Defender Elena Ricci secured a career-best nine draw controls.
