Tech falters to Liberty

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team fell to Liberty on Sunday afternoon in a tightly-contested 4-3 match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech started the day out strong in a doubles lineup that had close matches across the board. Junior Carlo Donato and senior Mitch Harper went blow-for-blow with Goncalo Ferreira and Josh Wilson in a 7(1)-6 win for the Hokies. 

The tandem of senior Henrik Korsgaard and junior Alex Ribeiro stormed back from an early deficit to best Nicaise Muamba and Steve Mundt, 7-5, and earn the doubles point. 

Harper, ranked No. 120, carried his momentum into singles and defeated Muamba 7-5, 6-3 on court one. Donato improved to 5-0 on the season after a swift 6-2, 6-1 victory on court three against Chase Burton. 

The Hokies return to action Saturday, Feb. 15, for a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure and Gardner-Webb.
