BLACKSBURG – After their first league win of the 2019-20 season on Sunday afternoon, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to return to the floor on Thursday evening when they play host to the Pitt Panthers.

The Hokies got a 76-70 victory over North Carolina last time on the floor to register the team's first ACC win of the season after traveling to two top 10 opponents the week before. Four Hokies were in double figures, led by 16 points apiece from Aisha Sheppard and Trinity Baptiste.
Sheppard, the squad's leading scorer at 17.3 points per game scored four 3-poitn baskets against Carolina, this coming on the heels of a program best eight made at NC State. Her 12 in two games in the most in that span in program history. This season she leads the conference in 3's per game (3.14) and is second in 3-point field goal percentage (.427). She has climbed to fourth all-time in Virginia Tech program history in that category with 179.
Baptiste scored in double figures for the eighth time this season and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Point guard Taja Cole who leads the conference at 6.4 assists per game had nine dimes and added nine points for the Hokies who moved to 11-3 (1-2) on the season.
THE PANTHERS
Pitt enters the contest 3-11 (0-3) and on a seven-game losing streak dating back to November 30. Last time out Pitt fell 79-70 at home to Boston College on Sunday afternoon. Three Panthers were in double figures; Gabbie Green (12), Rita Igbokwe (12) and Aysia Bugg (10).
On the season, Pitt is led by Bugg at 13.2 points per game and score 62 per contest as a team.
Following last week's games, Panthers guard Amber Brown was named the ACC's Freshman of the Week. She averaged 8.3 points and 10 rebounds in the games vs. Notre Dame and Boston College. It was her second Freshman of the Week selection.
Pitt head coach Lance White is in his second season at the helm of the program.
NEXT TIME ON THE HARDWOOD
•The Hokies will travel to Duke University on Sunday, January 12 to take on the Blue Devils at 3 pm on Regional Sports Networks.
•Tech is 3-29 all-time against Duke and 2-13 on the road at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
•Last season the Hokies earned the program's first road victory at Duke since 1985 and the first win the series in 25 tries with a 64-57 triumph. Regan Magarity registered a double-double with 22 points and 18 rebounds in the game and Taylor Emery added 13 points for Tech.
