Select Hokies set to compete at New Mexico Team Open

BLACKSBURG – Making the trek out west to Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Virginia Tech track and field teams' pole vault group will compete on Saturday at the New Mexico Team Open.
 
The one-day meet will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET with the first flight of the men's pole vault. The meet will be streamed on FloTrack, although access will require a subscription. Fans making the trip can purchase tickets at the door for $5.

In their second meet of the 2020 indoor season the Hokies tallied four event wins, 38 personal bests and made 23 updates to the top-10 all-time marks and times list.
 
In the first attempt of her career in the 400, Caitlan Tate won the event with the second fastest time in program history (53.21).
 
Tech swept the 1,000 with wins by Sarah Edwards (2:44.68) on the women's side and Jack Joyce (2:22.87) on the men's side.
 
Tyreke Sapp won his first event title as a Hokie when he turned in the third fastest 300 time in school history (33.85).
 
Hokies in the Rankings
Nationally, the Hokies have eight student-athletes who have times and marks that rank in the top-25. Sara Freix and Lauren Berman rank 10th and 13th in the mile, respectively, while Caitlan Tate is eighth in the 400-meter dash, and Rachel Baxter is fifth in the nation in the pole vault.
 
On the men's side, Cole Beck ranks sixth in the 60-meter dash, Jaelyn Demory sits 12th in the heptathlon, while Chauncey Chambers is 13th in the nation in the triple jump and Tyson Jones is 22nd in the shot put
