Hokies set to host No. 3/7 NC State

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving team will wrap up the dual part of the schedule on Saturday, hosting No. 3/7 NC State in an 11 a.m. meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Tech will recognize 14 seniors prior to Saturday's meet.

IN THE RANKINGS
Virginia Tech men moved up to No. 20 after defeating Virginia the last time out. NC State enters the weekend with the Wolfpack's women's team ranked No. 3 while the men are No. 7.
 
THE SENIORS
Tech will recognize its 14 seniors prior to the meet. For the women, Jessica Arnold, Jenna Beattie, Jessica Beattie, Baillie Cameron, Caroline de Jager, Annalee Johnson, Kayla Purcell, Margarita Ryan, Erin Scott and Hannah Wilding. On the men's side is: Aaron Boyd, Hassler Carroll, Justin Rich and Simon Shi.
 
HOKIE MEN

  • Virginia Tech defeated Virginia 158-141 the last time out.
  • Tech claimed wins in nine individual events as well as the 400 free relay.
    • Blake Manoff and Noah Zawadzki won two events each, sweeping the ACC men's weekly honors as Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.
      • Manoff finished first in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke, while Zawadzki claimed both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.
    • Antani Ivanov (200 fly), Thomas Hallock (50 free), Sam Tornqvist (200 back), AJ Pouch (200 breast) and Lane Stone (500 free) won one event each.
  • The recently released u18 World Top-100 times have several current Hokies on the list, including Pouch, Manoff, Ryan Vipavetz, Cobi Lopez Miro and Forest Webb.
    • Pouch: 7th – 200 breast, 14 – 100 breast, 82nd – 200 IM
    • Manoff: 12th – 100 fly, 20th – 200 fly, 59th – 200 free, 67th – 50 free
    • Vipavetz: 24th – 200 fly
    • Lopez Miro: 64th – 100 breast, 66th – 200 breast
    • Webb: 76th – 100 back
  • In the NCAA this season:
    • Ivanov: 9th –  200 fly | 28th – 100 fly
    • Tornqvist: 23rd – 200 back
    • Filippo dal Maso: 29th – 1650 free
    • 800 free relay: 26th

 
HOKIE WOMEN

  • The Tech women finished either first or second in eight events against the Cavaliers.
    • Brooke Travis took first in the 1650 free while Teagan Moravek won 1-meter diving.
    • Finishing second for the Hokies: Erin Scott (100 breast), Joelle Vereb (50 free), Sarah Shackelford (100 free), Kayla Purcell (100 fly), Charlie Burt (200 IM) and Regan Westwood (3-meter).
  • Jenna Thompson holds a u18 Top-100 World ranking in the 100 breaststroke at 62nd.
  • In the NCAA this season:
    • Vereb: 19th – 50 free | 24th – 100 fly
    • 200 free relay – 24th
