Hokies return to Rector Field House for Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG – Following an excitement-filled opening weekend, the Virginia Tech track and field teams return to Rector Field House on Friday as they host the Hokie Invitational.
 
The two-day meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday and will commence again on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Admission will be free for all fans.
 
The Hokies will play host to fellow ACC schools North Carolina, NC State, Pitt and Virginia along with eight other well-known programs such as East Carolina, Elon, Georgetown, High Point, North Carolina A&T, UNC Charlotte, Radford and VCU.

Last Time Out
Jacory Patterson started his season with a bang as he broke Torrin Lawrence's 300-meter dash collegiate record (32.32) with his time of 32.38 seconds. The men's team also saw Cole Beck (60m), Jack Joyce (1,000m), Diego Zarate (3,000m) and the 4x400-meter relay team of the Patrick Forrest, Tyreke Sapp, Miles Green and Patterson all win event titles.
 
On the women's side, Caitlan Tate broke the school record in the 300 with her time of 37.15, as Rachel Baxter (Pole Vault) and the 4x400 team of Arlicia Bush, Kennedy Dennis, Nykah Smith and Tate also claimed titles over the weekend.
 
League Honors
Due to their impressive showings last weekend, Baxter was named ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week, while Patterson was the Men's Track Co-Performer of the Week.
 
Hokies in the Rankings
Nationally, the Hokies have three student-athletes that have times and marks that rank in the top-20. Baxter stands fourth in the pole vault, while Chauncey Chambers (triple jump) and Tyson Jones (shot put) sit 12th and 20th, respectively.
