Baxter, Patterson earn league recognition following season-opening weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech track and field student athletes Rachel Baxter and Jacory Patterson were announced as ACC Performers of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
 
Patterson opened the 2020 indoor season with a bang for the Hokies as he broke Torrin Lawrence's collegiate record (32.32) in the 300-meter dash with his time of 32.28 seconds. The Co-ACC Men's Track Performer of the week also ran the anchor leg as a member for Tech's 4x400-meter relay team that ran a school record time of 3 minutes, 09.28 seconds.
 
Baxter earns ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week honors after vaulting a height of 4.41 meters (14 feet, 5.5 inches) for the 10th event title of her career. The Orange, California native's season-opening mark is currently No. 4 in the country.
 
Four others were selected by the ACC for weekly honors, including Miami's Raheem Chambers (Co-Men's Track), Florida State's Isaac Grimes (Co-Men's Field), North Carolina's Daniel McArthur (Co-Men's Field) and Clemson's Andrea Foster (Women's Track).
 
The Hokies return to Rector Field House this weekend as they host the second of four homes meets with the Hokie Invitational. The meet begins Friday, Jan. 24 at 10:30 a.m. with multi-events. Action will pick back up on Saturday Jan. 25 at 9:30 a.m., once again starting with multi-events.
