Jill Wilson Resigns as Virginia Tech Volleyball Coach

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock confirmed Tuesday that he has accepted the resignation of Jill Wilson as head coach of Virginia Tech's volleyball program. Babcock indicated that he will begin a national search to identify Tech's next head coach.

"Everyone at Virginia Tech has been wonderful to me and my husband, Jared," Wilson said. "I'm extremely grateful to have worked with such a tremendous group of student-athletes and support staff associated with Virginia Tech Volleyball. I'm proud of what our teams accomplished on the court and in the classroom. More importantly, I am excited to watch these future CEOs as they pursue their career ambitions after graduation. While I will miss this team and Blacksburg very much, after much thought and consideration, I've told Whit that I believe it is in the best interest of the program if I step away at this time."

Wilson served as the fifth head coach in the history of the volleyball program at Tech, compiling a 35-57 overall record and a 13-43 mark in ACC play in three seasons (2017-19). The Hokies closed the 2019 season with an 11-20 record (4-14 ACC).

"I appreciate the efforts of Jill and her staff for their contributions to our volleyball program and our student-athletes," Babcock said. "We will work diligently to identify a new head coach to lead Virginia Tech Volleyball."

Wilson joined the Hokies after an extremely successful run as an assistant coach at LSU. She also helped lead the Tigers to six NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2009 SEC Championship, as well as 25-win seasons in 2007, 2009 and 2010. The Tigers averaged over 20 wins per season during her time on the LSU staff.

A four-year starter as outside hitter at LSU from 1997-2000, Wilson ranked sixth in the SEC with 23 service aces during her senior campaign that also saw the Tigers appear in the 2000 SEC Tournament finals.
