Hokies Events: Sept. 20-22

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech volleyball team will be at home for the first time this season as the Hokies are set to host the Hokie Invitational. Cross Country will be back on the course with the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational while women's soccer takes its undefeated non-conference record into the ACC opener, hosting Miami on Saturday.

Taking the floor for the first time at home this season, the Virginia Tech volleyball team (6-4, 0-0 ACC) is set to host the four-team Hokie Invitational sponsored by the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Christiansburg. In the Hokies' final tournament before entering conference play, they will play host to Chattanooga and Arkansas State on Friday, before returning to action Saturday to play Charlotte. Most recently, at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic, hosted by Air Force, the Hokies claimed all three wins on the weekend for the first time this season.

Buford Meredith Cross Country Course
Sept. 20 | 5:30 p.m. - Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational
 
The Virginia Tech cross country team will return to Buford Meredith Cross Country Course this weekend to host the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. In its season debut at the Virginia Tech Invitational two weeks ago, the Virginia Tech men's team claimed the overall title, while the Virginia Tech women's team placed second in the field. Buford Meredith Cross Country Course will later play host to the ACC Championship in November, and will serve as great experience in the meanwhile as the Hokies last hosted the league championship in 2012.

With an undefeated record to conclude non-conference play, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team (8-0, 0-0 ACC) now lands at No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Following last weekend's two-win road trip at the Battle By The Beach tournament in Wilmington, N.C., the Hokies wrapped up its non-conference schedule without a loss through defeating the College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington. Tallying a NCAA leading six shutout victories on the year, the Hokies look to further improve that mark heading into conference play, as they open against Miami (3-2-1, 0-0 ACC) on Saturday Sept. 21, from Thompson Field.

The Virginia Tech men's tennis team will be represented by three athletes this weekend at the Duke Bonk Invite, the Hokies' second tournament of the fall season. The 12-team field will begin competition Friday, Sept. 20 from Cary Tennis Park with two doubles matches and a singles match, and will conclude play Sunday, Sept. 22 with one doubles match and two singles matches.

The Virginia Tech men's soccer team (5-1, 0-1 ACC) is now ranked No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll after falling last weekend in its conference opener to then No. 18 North Carolina, following a 5-0 undefeated start to the season. Looking to bounce back in their first away ACC matchup, the Hokies will take the field at RV Louisville (2-1-2, 0-0-1 ACC) this Friday, Sept. 20, aiming to even its conference record before returning to Blacksburg for a two-game homestand.
