Hokies Events: Aug. 30 - Sept. 1

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech has three teams beginning their 2019 campaigns this weekend as volleyball, men's soccer and football open on the road. Women's soccer looks to remain undefeated on the year as the Hokies travel to Georgia for the Bulldog Classic.

The Virginia Tech volleyball team will start its season competing in the Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Innovational, hosted by Miami (Ohio). The four-team tournament will feature games against USC Upstate and Miami (Ohio) on Friday, Aug. 30, trailed by Saturday's matchup against Northwestern. Following a four-win improvement over the past two seasons, Head Coach Jill Wilson aims to continue to trend the Hokies upwards in her third season at Virginia Tech.

After recording two home wins to open the season, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team is receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Hokies look to carry the momentum on the road as they head to Athens, Ga. for the Bulldog Classic. Virginia Tech will kick off against home team Georgia, on Friday, Aug. 30, and will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 1 to take on Auburn in their first meeting in school history.

The Virginia Tech men's soccer team, ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, will make its season debut at Loyola Marymount, in the first of two west coast road games in the state of California. The Hokies will kick off against the Lions of Loyola Marymount Friday, Aug. 30, before returning to play Sunday, Sept. 1 to compete against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. This will be the first meeting in school history against either team.

Aug. 31 | 4 p.m. - Boston College

The Virginia Tech football team will kickstart its 2019 campaign on the road against ACC foe Boston College. This matchup will mark the second consecutive year where the Hokies have traveled to compete against an ACC squad to open the season, previously defeating No. 19 Florida State, 24-3. Head Coach Justin Fuente, who is 3-0 in season openers with Virginia Tech, looks to improve his record while propelling the Hokies to a fast start in the ACC Coastal division.
