On the move! Hokies relocate north to Florence, marvel at Michelangelo’s ‘David’

FLORENCE, ITALY – On Saturday, the Hokies vacated their temporary home in Rome, loaded the bus with most of their luggage and boarded a train to journey north to Florence. Upon arrival the group had free time to explore the city, do any shopping and of course sit down for lunch and gelato.

The program then toured Academia, a famous art museum that features many of Michelangelo's works, culminating at the end of the hall with his most famous sculpture, 'David', depicting a young man, David from the tale of David and Goliath. The work took three years to complete and stands 17 feet tall.

Some members of the group continued on past the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazza Duome as well as the works of art on display in the Piazza della Signoria and the Loggia dei Lanzi.

In the evening, the group was free to go out to dinner on their own to sample the local fares.
