Virginia Tech Athletics announces information regarding 2020 reseating process

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics released preliminary details today regarding the upcoming reseating process, beginning with the 2020 Hokies football season, to inform all current and future donors about some upcoming adjustments to the program.

The process allows Virginia Tech Athletics to be equitable toward all donors, rewarding longtime major contributors, those who recently made significant donations (within the past three years), and those who have upgraded their giving over that same time span. In addition, the process allows an entry point for new donors and season ticket holders.

More than 15,000 donors to the Hokie Club and Hokie Scholarship Fund (HSF) support the athletics and academic pursuits of all Hokies student-athletes and provide the necessary support to compete at the highest levels.

"Our student-athletes would not be able to achieve success on the field, in the classroom, or in the community without the generous support of our donors and supporters of the Hokies," Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said. "Hokie Nation is filled with special people who truly make athletes from all over the world feel like this is home – and we appreciate their continued support of Virginia Tech. We want and need everyone pulling in the same direction to be our best. This is about participation and getting involved. It makes a huge difference in our success."

Scholarship costs have risen by an average of 3.45 percent each year for the past three years since the initial release of the HSF program in advance of the 2017 athletics season. With that in mind, Virginia Tech Athletics has worked to evaluate each individual piece of the reseating process and the scholarship commitments.

Certain adjustments will be made to the HSF that may impact current and future donors, including the following:

• Membership levels have increased by an average of 10 percent to stay in line with the increasing scholarship costs for student-athletes at Virginia Tech – costs such as tuition, room and board, books, cost of attendance and other fees. The individual membership levels also are tied to specific benefits during the year, and individuals should review the information in the Benefits Chart (https://hokiesports.com/2020) to identify how their previous annual gift would be impacted by this adjustment. This is the first adjustment to the full assortment of the Hokie Club membership levels since the launch of the Hokie Scholarship Fund in 2017.

• Per-seat gift levels in Lane Stadium will remain the same with the exception of a new designation of a $25 gift per seat for seats in some areas of the stadium which previously did not require a priority seating gift.

• New for 2020, the "Gobbler" Level has been added as a $25 annual contribution to the HSF. The Drive for 25 continues to be a focus for the Department of Athletics and this additional level will provide a new point of entry for new donors to Virginia Tech Athletics.

• Previously, there were two deadlines (March 31 for all contributions related to football and June 30 for all contributions related to basketball). Those deadlines have been combined and the HSF deadline will be March 31, 2020 for all gifts related to seating priority for football ticket locations.

• Additional information regarding ticket options, season ticket prices, and other pertinent details will be released in late fall 2019 as the renewal process begins.
