LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that the Virginia Tech volleyball program has earned Team Academic Honors for the 2018-19 season.
The AVCA honored a record 1,125 teams this year from both the high school and college ranks. The award is given to teams that hold an average 3.30 cumulative team GPA during the academic year on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
The Hokies finished the academic year with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.48.
A total of 189 Division I schools were honored and Tech is one of seven ACC schools to make the list, joining Boston College, Florida State, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Pitt and Syracuse.
The Hokies will enter the 2019 season with four returning starters and their libero back, while welcoming four freshmen. Another tough schedule awaits for Tech, playing five 2018 NCAA Tournament teams and 11 programs that finished in the top 80 of the RPI. First serve this fall will come on Aug. 23 at Cassell Coliseum at Carilion Clinic Court against JMU at 6 p.m. ET in an exhibition.
