Tech-Western Carolina doubleheader canceled

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Athletics officials were informed Thursday that Western Carolina's softball team will not travel to Blacksburg for Saturday's doubleheader at Tech Softball Park.

With inclement weather in the forecast and finals week on the horizon for the Catamounts, the nonconference games will be canceled, ending the regular season for both teams.

The No. 24/T22 Hokies will play an intrasquad scrimmage instead on Saturday, weather depending, splitting up into two teams for one game to honor Tech's seniors on Senior Day, with first pitch at noon ET.

Fans are more than welcome to come out and support the seniors in their final game at TSP. The group entails catcher Lauren Duff, outfielder Kinsey Johnson, shortstop Caitlyn Nolan, outfielder Emma Strouth and catcher/first baseman Sierra Walton, as well as manager Chyna Carter.

Following the scrimmage, Tech will be back in action at the ACC Championship on the campus of No. 6/5 Florida State starting on May 9 as the top seed in the 10-team tournament.
