ORLANDO, Fla. – Virginia Tech men's tennis student-athlete Jason Kros claims National ITA NCAA Division I Most Improved Senior honors as announced Sunday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Kros also claimed ITA Atlantic Region Most Improve Senior honors as well as ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year.
The Tech senior posted a 26-16 overall record this season. In spring duals, Kros went 13-10 record playing at the one en route to a No. 70 national ranking, picking up three wins over ranked opponent, all against ACC foes. Against #44 Duke, Kros defeated Nick Stachowiak (No. 41) convincingly, 6-2, 6-3. Not long after at #44 Georgia Tech, he battled to a three-set victory against Carlos Divar (No. 30). Earlier this month, Kros ousted Adria Sorriano Barrera (No. 36) in a match against #24 Miami. He has remained ranked all season.
Kros' improvement honor comes after a career which began as a freshman who posted a 10-6 overall record while competing in just three dual matches. He had a break out sophomore campaign with a 22-12 record while going 13-9 in duals, playing primarily at the five before moving into the two as a junior where he was 23-13 and 13-10 in duals.
Kros recently earned All-ACC Second Team honors for his performance this season. This marks the first national ITA honor for the Hokies.
