Several Hokies to compete at 2019 Toyota U.S. Open

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's swim teams will split time this week with members traveling to the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta, Georgia as well as the Len European Short Course Swimming Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Competition will be long course meters (LCM) and begins Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. with the 800m freestyle. The U.S. Open will run through Saturday, Dec. 4 concluding with the 200 butterfly.
 
THE HOKIES
Competing in Atlanta will be Aaron Boyd, AJ Pouch, Justin Rich, Ryan Vipavetz and Forest Webb for the men. On the women's side, Tech will send Baillie Cameron, Anna Landon, Kayla Purcell, Sarah Shackelford, Julia Smith, Brooke Travis and Joelle Vereb and Loulou Vos.
 
Tech senior Reka Gyorgy will also compete, but will swim unattached as she is taking a redshirt year this season.
 
THE FIELD
Hosted by USA Swimming, Virginia Tech will be competing against some of the top swimmers in the world, including several Olympic medalists and qualifiers, national team members, and some of the top collegiate swimmers from around the country.
 
Those competing in Atlanta will have the chance to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

* The finals will begin with the B consolation heat, followed by the A championship heat with the C bonus heat to be swam after those are completed.
 
LEN EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS – More Info: Link | Results: Link
Competition will be short course meters beginning Wednesday, Dec. 4 and continuing through Sunday, Dec. 8. Prelims will begin at 9:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. ET) with finals at 5 p.m. (1 p.m. ET).
 
Antani Ivanov and Thomas Hallock will be making the trip to Scotland to compete unattached in the European Championships. Ivanov will be representing Bulgaria while Hallock will represent Switzerland. The two will be competing against some of the top talent in Europe.
