Nolley earns ACC Freshman of the Week

Opens in a new window ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After two stellar games at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum, Virginia Tech men's basketball's Landers Nolley II has been named ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

The redshirt freshman led the Hokies (8-3) two wins over Chattanooga (7-5) and Gardner-Webb (3-8) this past week, averaging 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and three assists per game.

With the honor, it marks Nolley's third time earning the award this season, which is the first time a Hokie has done so since Tech joined the ACC in 2004-05.

Nolley made five 3-pointers on his way to 18 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds against Gardner-Webb on Sunday in a near double-double effort, extending Tech's home nonconference winning streak to 30 games.

Beforehand, he tallied seven makes from the field and a 4-of-5 mark from the charity stripe for 19 points, while recording six rebounds and three assists versus Chattanooga last Wednesday. With Tech down three points with five minutes to go against Chattanooga, Nolley scored six points down the stretch to preserve the win.

Nolley is the fourth Tech player to win ACC Freshman/Rookie of the Week, along with AD Vassallo (2005-06), Jeff Allen (2007-08) and Kerry Blackshear Jr. (2015-16). And now has topped Allen for winning the award more than two times.

Tech will be back in action on Saturday when it plays host to VMI (5-7) at 4 p.m. ET in Blacksburg. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
