Hokies unveil 2020 track and field schedule

BLACKSBURG – Four home meets highlight the 2020 Virginia Tech track and field schedule, as announced by director of track and field and cross country Dave Cianelli Thursday afternoon.
 
Tech opens up its 2020 indoor slate with three consecutive home meets as they host the Virginia Tech Invitational (Jan. 17-18), Hokie Invitational (Jan. 24-25) and the Virginia Tech "Doc Hale" Elite Meet (Feb. 7-8). Select student-athletes will also travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the Camel City Invitational held Feb. 7-8.
 
After splitting up to participate in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, Iowa State Classic and the Texas Tech Shootout, the Hokies return to Rector for the Virginia Tech Challenge, their final home meet of the season, held Feb. 21-22.
 
The indoor conference championship will take place Feb. 27-29 in South Bend, Indiana, as the men's team will try to win back-to-back indoor titles. The NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico March 13-14.
 
The outdoor season will kick off March 26-28, as the Hokies split their season-opening weekend, sending student-athletes to compete at the Texas Relays, Weems Baskin Invitational and the Raleigh Relays.
 
Tech will see a busy April as they split up for the Pepsi Florida Relays and the Bill Carson Invitational April 2-4, before taking a trip to Knoxville, Tennessee for the 53rd Tennessee Relays on April 10. Meets at Virginia, Georgia and Liberty will close out the month.
 
The Hokies will split for their final weekend of the regular season, as they head to one-day meets at Arizona and Tennessee on May 2.
 
Tech will then converge on Durham, North Carolina to compete at the ACC Outdoor Championships at Duke, where the men will look to defend their 2019 outdoor title.
 
The NCAA East Preliminaries will be in Lexington, Kentucky from May 28-30, followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 10-13, which will be held in Austin, Texas for the second consecutive year.
