Hokies host DII No. 1 Queens, Richmond

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in action this weekend, returning home to host DII No. 1 Queens as well as Richmond's women's team at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

HOKIES MEN

  • Virginia Tech is coming off a big weekend in which the Hokies defeated No. 8 Ohio State, 185-168, as well as #RV Penn State, 205.5-145.,5 in University Park, Pa.
  • The Hokies turned 21 top-3 performances, including eight first-place finishes.
  • Sam Tornqvist and Blake Manoff both had a pair of top individual finishes for the Hokies.
    • Tornqvist took first in the 100 and 200 backstroke while Manoff was the top in the 100 fly and 100 free.
    • Manoff's time in the 100 fly was an NCAA B cut and set new McCoy Natatorium record.
  • Manoff earned ACC Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time in his career, following his performance against PSU and OSU.
  • Antani Ivanov (200 fly) and Lane Stone (200 free) also had top individual finishes for the Hokies.
  • Tech excelled in relays, winning two of the four – 400 medley and 200 free – while taking second in the other two – 200 medley and 400 free.
  • Freshmen AJ Pouch and Ryan Vipavetz had second place finishes in the 200 breaststroke and 200 fly, respectively.
  • In diving, Noah Zawadzki claimed third in the 3-meter.

 
HOKIES WOMEN

  • The Tech women are looking to bounce back after faltering against the No. 24 Buckeyes, 247-106, and Penn state 216.5-136.5.
  • Virginia Tech posted 17 top-5 finishes at PSU, including four top finishes.
  • Joelle Vereb (100 free), Margarita Ryan (100 back), Loulou Vos (500 free) and Teagan Moravek (1-meter) each took first in their respective events.
    • Ryan also had a third place finish for the Hokies in the 200 back.
    • Abigail Andrusin claimed second in the 100 free just behind Vereb.
  • Freshmen Rose Pouch and Jenna Thompson turned in top-5 finishes for the Hokies.
    • Pouch placed fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 200 IM while Thompson took fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
  • In relays, the Hokies claimed a top-3 finish in two of the events, placing second in the 400 free and third in the 200 free.
  • On the boards, Moravek finished first in the 1-meter and was followed by Regan Westwood in third.
