NEW YORK – The National Football League unveiled the 100 greatest players in league history on Friday as part of the NFL's continuing celebration of its 100th season. That list of luminaries included Virginia Tech legend Bruce Smith, who is owns the league's all-time sack crown with 200.0 career QB takedowns
A member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Norfolk, Virginia starred for the Hokies from 1981-84. He racked 22.0 sacks for Tech as a junior in 1983 and earned first-team All-America honors in both 1983 and 1984. The number one overall selection in the 1985 NFL Draft, Smith helped lead the Buffalo Bills to four Super Bowl appearances as he accumulated 11 Pro Bowl berths and eight All-Pro selections.

On Friday, NFL Network debuted an hour-long documentary on Smith's life as part of the league's ongoing "A Football Life" series. Produced by NFL Films, the show takes fans on a journey through the legendary defensive end's life. From growing up in The Tidewater region to becoming one of the best athletes to ever play in the college and NFL ranks, the documentary covers it all. Smith and the NFL Films crew was on campus in Blacksburg earlier this fall as part of the documentary. Throughout the piece, which is narrated by actor Josh Charles, fans will hear from a star-studded group including, Smith himself and former Buffalo teammates Jim Kelly, Darryl Talley, Cornelius Bennett, Steve Tasker, Marcellus Wiley and Frank Reich. Smith's wife Carmen, brother George and sister Linda also make an appearance, along with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and former NFL quarterbacks Doug Pederson and Boomer Esiason.
The NFL's All-Time Team was selected by a blue-ribbon voting panel made up of coaches, team and front-office executives, former players and members of the media with a deep appreciation of the NFL, its teams and players, as well as a commitment to research.
