Hokies falter to No. 28 doubles at ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. – Virginia Tech's run at the ITA All-American ended on Thursday as the Hokies fell to the 28th-ranked duo in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
Tech's Henrik Korsgaard and Brandon Perez won the opening set 7-5 over USC's 28th-ranked Bradley Frye and Riley Smith. In the second set, the Trojan duo came back to win it in a tiebreak 7-6(2).
 
The match went to the superbreak where the okHokiesHokies led early before Frye and Smith rallied to hold on for the 1-0(9) win.

Virginia Tech men's tennis had a big doubles win on Wednesday as Henrik Korsgaard and Brandon Perez teamed up to knock off the nation's top-ranked pair at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. 
 
Korsgaard and Perez won the opening set 6-4, but Texas A&M's duo of Juan Carlos Aguilar and Barnaby Smith came back to take the second set 6-2. The Aggie pair got out to the lead in the superbreaker, but the Hokies answered with three straight points to take the lead for good, winning it 1-0(8).
 
The Hokies will be back on the court tomorrow to face Cal's No. 16 Yuta Kikuchi and Jacob Brumm.

Virginia Tech advanced into the main draw doubles on Tuesday at the 2019 ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
Henrik Korsgaard and Brandon Perez paired up in the final round of the qualifying draws to defeat Texas A&M 6-4, 7-6(1).
 
The Tech pair will be back on the court for the main draw and is set to face another Aggie duo in the nation's top-ranked Juan Carlos Aguilar and Barnaby Smith. Match time is set for 2 p.m. ET tomorrow.

-- QUALIFYING DAY ONE -- 
TULSA, Okla. –
Virginia Tech men's tennis had a strong day on Monday at the ITA All-American Championships advancing in both the singles and doubles qualifying draws in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
The day opened with a big win for senior Henrik Korsgaard, ranked No. 104 in the preseason ITA standings. He knocked off Stanford's 54th ranked William Genesen. Taking the first set 7-5, Korsgaard fell in the second 6-1 before rallying to sweep the third 6-0.
 
In the afternoon, Korsgaard paired up with Perez in doubles. The two played an exciting opening match against Oklahoma State. After falling in a first set tiebreak, 7-6(4), the Tech duo responded to win the second 6-4 before going on to claim the 10-point tiebreak 1-0(7).
 
The pair faced off against 40th-ranked Christopher Edge and Tom Moonen of Middle Tennessee State, picking up the straight set win 6-4, 6-2.
 
The Hokies will be back on the court tomorrow to continue competition in the qualifying rounds at the All-American Championships.
