BLACKSBURG – Head coach Justin Fuente announced Thursday that DL Jarrod Hewitt will wear Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey on Saturday in Virginia Tech's game vs. Miami. It will mark the first time that the redshirt junior has earned the honor of wearing Beamer's No. 25 jersey.
Hewitt (6-1, 288) owns 11 tackles on the season, including one sack in the win against ODU. He had a career best five stops against the Monarchs. The Florida native had two tackles and a quarterback hurry in Tech's last contest against Duke.
Earlier this year, Hewitt was crowned Virginia Tech's overall 2019 Hard Hat Champion for his work in the program's off-season program. The highly-coveted hard hats were earned by 44 players based on a number of criteria established by Asst. AD for Strength and Conditioning Ben Hilgart and his staff. In addition to meeting or exceeding physical performance and testing goals, attitude, enthusiasm and leadership were also factored into the equation.
At the beginning of the 2016 season, head coach Justin Fuente announced that a special teams' player of the week would be selected to wear the No. 25 as a tribute to Coach Beamer and his legacy of special teams' excellence he established for the Hokies.
