IN THE RANKINGS
The Tech men enter the weekend ranked 24th in the latest CSCAA TYR Top-25 poll. The Hokies return eight of 11 who competed at NCAAs last season and look to build on a fourth-place finish at last season's ACC Championships.
HOKIE MEN
- Seven NCAA qualifiers return for the Hokies: Lane Stone, Sam Tornqvist, Thomas Hallock, Antani Ivanov, Blake Manoff, Henry Claesson and Noah Zawadzki
- Stone and Ivanov earned All-America Honorable Mention honors
- Hokies welcome back school record holders in six events –
- Stone holds the top-times in the 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free
- Ivanov holds the record in both the 100 and 200 fly events.
- Hokies have 19 top-five times also returning to the roster for 2019-20 –
- Tornqvist holds the third fastest times in the 200 and 400 IM as well as the 200 backstroke.
- Manoff is the second top-time in the 200 fly and fourth in the 100 fly.
- Thomas Hallock holds top-5 times in the 50 free and 100 free.
- Filippo Dal Maso ranks in the top-5 in the 500 and 1650 free events.
- Keith Myburgh holds the second fastest time in the 400 IM behind former Hokie and three-time All-American Robert Owen.
- Claesson, David Herbert and Hassler Carroll also return and all are members of top-5 time relay teams.
HOKIE WOMEN
- Tech women are a young, but talented group –
- 27 freshmen or sophomores help to make up the 43 Hokies on the roster.
- Top-returner for the Hokies is junior Joelle Vereb who qualified for NCAAs last season.
- She holds program top-5 times in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 fly and 200 IM.
- Juniors Abigail Andrusin and Emily Meilus as well as senior Kayla Purcell return for the 2019-20 season.
- They hold program top-5 times in the 100 free, 200 back and 100 fly, respectively.
- Sophomore Loulou Vos had a strong freshman campaign, turning in the program's fifth-fastest time in the 1650 last season.
- Several other returners are members of top-5 relay teams including Abby Larson and Anna Landon.
- Senior Reka Gyorgy will take an Olympic redshirt this season to train for the 2020 games.
UP NEXT: The Hokies will be on the road, traveling to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions along with Ohio State. The Buckeyes are ranked eighth on the men's side and 24th on the women's.
