Tech set to open ITA Atlantic Region Championships

BLACKSBURG  - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team will compete in the ITA Regional Championship in Charlottesville, Va., beginning Thursday, Oct. 16.

Six Hokies will make the trip, including senior Henrik Korsgaard, juniors Ryan Kros and Chase Bernstine, sophomore Brandon Perez, and freshmen Ryan Bernstine and Michael Shepheard. '

Round of 256 matches begin on Thursday, with Chase Bernstine, Ryan Bernstine and Ryan Kros competing. Korsgaard, Perez and Shepheard are all seeded in the tournament, receiving double-byes and will play on Friday. Korsgaard is seeded third in the event behind Liberty's Nicaise Muamba and Virginia's Gianni Ross. 

Korsgaard and Perez will team up in doubles, as will Ryan and Chase Bernstine, and Kros and Shepheard. Doubles matches are scheduled to begin on Friday. 

Schools competing in the ITA Regional Championship include: Delaware, Duquesne, George Mason, Georgetown, Hampton, Howard, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Morgan State, Mount Saint Mary's, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, VCU, Villanova, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and William & Mary.

Matches are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, but will start at 9 a.m. on the other day with matches taking place at Snyder Tennis Center, Dell Courts and Boar's Head Sports Club. The Hokies will be on the court on Thursday at Snyder.
