No. 20 Tech and NC State play to a 1-1 draw

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 20th-ranked Virginia Tech women's soccer team faced an early one-goal deficit to NC State in its ACC contest on Sunday night at Dail Soccer Field. However, Molly Feighan scored her third goal of the year to force overtime and then Mother Nature ended the match three minutes into the first extra session as the Hokies and Wolfpack finished in a 1-1- tie.

Tech (9-3-2, 1-3-2 ACC), who was playing in its third straight overtime match, the most since playing four straight during the month of October, 2016, took the only shot in overtime before the referees stopped the action.

NC State (6-4-4, 1-1-4 ACC) took its lead in the 20th minute as Maxine Blackwood scored her first of the year off a pass from Jameese Joseph. The Wolfpack controlled much of the first half as they held a 7-3 shot advantage before the intermission.

However, after the break, Tech was the aggressor and outshot NC State 8-3. In the 78th minute, Feighan evened the match with her second tally in as many games. Nicole Kozlova was credited with her second assist of the season on the game-tying goal, which forced overtime.

With 7:12 left on the clock in the first extra session, the match was suspended due to lightning. The teams waited out the weather for more than an hour before calling the match.

Mandy McGlynn, who has played every minute of her last 51 straight matches, made three saves to keep the Hokies within the one-goal deficit.
