BLACKSBURG - The United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday the Team Academic Award winners at the college level which recognizes exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year and for the third straight season, and seventh time in nine years, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team has been honored by the organization.
A total of 989 collegiate teams (345 men, 644 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 255 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.
The Hokies were first honored for four straight years from 2011-14 and have now been recognized the last three seasons. United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
