GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five members of the Virginia Tech cross country teams made the Atlantic Coast Conference's 2018 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Teams, as announced by the ACC office Thursday afternoon.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his/her undergraduate academic career. Graduate students needed to maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average for both the previous semester and for their graduate school careers. Athletic achievements during the most recent season also are considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Teams.
The All-ACC Academic Teams include three members of the Tech men's team and two members of the women's team.
Those on the men's team who received the recognition were Peter Seufer (finance), Bashir Mosavel-Lo (industrial systems engineering) and Jack Joyce (economics), while those on the women's team who were recognized included Sara Freix (biological systems engineering) and Kayla Richardson (computer science).
Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, enjoyed a banner season in cross country. He was the ACC Cross Country Runner of the Year after winning the individual race at the league meet, and he went on to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships with his 16th-place finish – the second-best finish by a Tech runner at the NCAA meet in program history.
Freix, a junior from Centreville, Virginia, led the Tech women, earning All-ACC honors with her 13th-place finish at the ACC Championship. She also earned All-Southeast Region honors, coming in eighth at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
Louisville junior Dorcas Wasike is the ACC Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Notre Dame senior Anthony Williams claimed Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors to head up the All-ACC Academic Teams.
