CARY, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team wrapped up the Duke Bonk Invite on Sunday with wins at the Cary Tennis Complex.
In the blue flight freshman Michael Shepheard defeated Mississippi State's Florian Broska 7-6(5), 6-4 to finish fifth in the blue flight.
Ryan Kros had the win in the black fight as he downed William & Mary's Chen Ruo 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(3).
The Hokies will return to the court Oct. 5-13 at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Brandon Perez advanced to the finals of the white flight on Saturday during the second day of the Duke Bonk Invite in Cary, North Carolina.
Perez defeated Liberty's Ian Sturgill with straight set scores of 6-4, 7-5. He followed up with a win over the three-seed Duke's Michael Heller 6-2, 7-5. Perez will face Duke's Sean Sculley in the finals on Sunday.
In the blue flight, Duke's 59th-ranked Nick Stachowiak rallied against the Hokies' freshman Michael Shepheard in a three-set match. After winning the opening set 6-3, Shepheard faltered in the next two 6-1, 6-2. In his second match of the day, Shepheard defeated UNC Wilmington's 6-4, 6-2.
In the black flight, Ryan Kros fell to UNCG's Peter Glenn 7-6(2), 6-1 before defeating North Florida's Joe Ellis 6-4, 7-5.
Shepheard and Kros paired up in doubles for a 6-1 win over NC State's Tristan Smith and Robin Catry.
The Hokies will wrap up the Duke Bonk Invite on Sunday.

CARY, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team got off to a strong start on Friday during the opening day of the Duke Bonk Invitational in Cary, North Carolina.
Sophomore Brandon Perez knocked off the top-seed in his flight as he defeated Mississippi State's Davide Tortora 6-4, 6-4.
Michael Shepheard, in his second collegiate event, secured the 6-4, 6-4 decision over Liberty's Steve Mundt.
In doubles, Shepheard paired up with Ryan Kros for a 6-3 first round win in the royal doubles flight as the two defeated Liberty's Goncalo Ferreira and Deji Thomas-Smith. The Hokies' duo faltered in the second round to Charlotte's Leonardo Menezes and Henry Lieberman with a 6-4 score.
The Hokies will be back on the court tomorrow with one doubles round and two rounds of singles.
