Hokies turn the page, get set for match up against Grand Canyon Tuesday night

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men's soccer team is set to return to Thompson Field on Tuesday, September 17 when they take on the Grand Canyon Lopes at 7 p.m.

The Hokies will look to rebound after Friday night's 3-1 defeat at the hands of No. 18 North Carolina. Kristo Strickler found the net in the 23rdminute off of a long throw in. Brendan Moyers launched the ball towards the box, where Jon Ingason flicked it on and found the forward's head. Strickler's glancing header found the back post, his fourth goal of the season. 
 
Carolina found an equalizer five minutes later, then took the lead five minutes after that and would go on to win the ACC opener. 
 
Some notes on the Hokies

  • Strickler ranks T-4 in the ACC with his four goals and T-7 in total points (9)
  • Freshman Nick Blacklock is T-3 in assists in the conference with three early on in his career
  • In goal, Mathijs Swaneveld has 13 saves, T-3 most in the ACC

 
The Lopes (3-1)
Grand Canyon enters the contest on a two-game winning streak after rebounding from a 1-0 loss against Saint Mary's.

Last time out, the Lopes earned a 1-0 victory against Oregon State from the Pac-12. Pambos Aristoleous scored the lone goal in the 45thminute. 
Bert Wilton leads the squad with five points (2 goals, 1 assist) followed by Justin Rasmussen's three total points (1 goal, 1 assist). 
 
Series History
The meeting will be the first between the two programs. 
 
On the horizon
The Hokies will head to Louisville on Friday, September 20 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff live on RSN. Tech last played the Cardinals in 2017, falling 1-0 at Thompson Field.
 
Tech is 3-1-1 all-time at Louisville, last traveling there in 2015, earning a 1-1 tie. Historically, the Hokies have owned the matchup, boasting a 10-1-4 record.
