Men’s soccer program ranked in preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team will begin their 2019 season ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll the organization announced late Tuesday afternoon. The Hokies finished 2018 ranked 17th following an 11-7-3 season that included wins in both the ACC and NCAA tournaments.

Tech opens fall camp with report day on Tuesday, August 13 followed by the first day of practice on Wednesday. The preseason slate includes a date at West Virginia on August 16 and home fixtures against ODU on August 20 and Georgetown August 24.

The squad's exciting slate begins with a trip to California to take on Loyola Marymount University on August 30. The entire 2019 schedule can be seen here.

The Hokies are coming off of a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships, a streak tied for the longest in program history. After earning the national 12 seed and a first round bye, the Hokies defeated visiting Charlotte at Thompson Field 1-0 on Kristo Strickler's strike in the 53rdminute. In the Sweet Sixteen, Tech fell to JMU 3-0.

This season's team is poised for another successful campaign with nine regular starters returning from last season, including All-ACC talents Strickler up front, and Mathijs Swaneveld in goal. The program welcomes 10 newcomers, including some talented freshmen that figure to make an impact.

Coach Brizendine announced the team's captains in April; defender Jon Ingason, midfielder Sivert Haugli and Strickler.
