No. 25 Tech opens 2019 with 3-0 win over visiting Liberty

BLACKSBURG – It took less than 10 minutes for the Virginia Tech women's soccer team to score its first goal of the 2019 season as Molly Feighan scored in the ninth minute, which turned out to be the game winner, as the No. 25 Hokies downed Liberty, 3-0, Thursday night at Thompson Field in the season opener for both schools.

Feighan took a pass from Emmalee McCarter and beat Flames' goalkeeper Melody Jayroe to register her first collegiate goal just 8:43 into the match.

McCarter wasn't done, as she also assisted on Tech's second goal of the night in the 30th minute, as she found Karlie Johnson on the wing, who crossed the ball into the box. Mikayla Mance finished the play to tally her second career goal.

For good measure, Mak Graham solidified the victory in the 70th minute with his first collegiate goal, heading home a cross from Emily Gray, who collected a pass from Emma Steigerwald.

Tech goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn made three saves in the match as she picked up her 30th win as a Hokie and notched the 23rd career shutout at the school. Those numbers are both second all-time at the school.
