BLACKSBURG – On Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum for the first time this season, Virginia Tech's volleyball team will be in action, taking on James Madison in an exhibition on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
The match will be free for the public to watch, but no live stats or broadcast will be available. However, a recap of the match will be posted on Hokiesports.com following the contest.
Tech is entering its third year with Jill Wilson at the helm and returns 12 letterwinners. Four newcomers will don the maroon and orange for the first time tomorrow, including Logan Mosley, Cera Powell, Rachel Tam and Anabel Zier.
Of the Hokies' 12 letterwinners, four saw a good amount of playing time last season, playing in over 100 sets – outside hitters Kaity Smith (107 sets) and Ester Talamazzi (106), middle blocker/right-side hitter Marisa Cerchio (108) and libero Carol Raffety (107).
The all-time series between the Hokies and Dukes started in 1977 and Tech leads 25-16. Tech won the last contest between the two schools back on Oct. 12, 2004, in Blacksburg, 3-1. The exhibition will not impact the all-time series.
The regular season will begin for the Hokies on Aug. 30, when they head up to Oxford, Ohio to compete in a four-team tournament on the RedHawks' campus.
