ROME – In the Eternal City, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team found themselves walking around one of the oldest cities in Western Europe, and a few degrees warmer than they were just yesterday in Paris.
The day began with breakfast at the hotel followed by a relatively short flight between the famous cities, touching down in Italy at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in the early afternoon. After loading up the bus, the group rolled to a lunch buffet featuring ham sandwiches, cheese, pasta, fruit and a few dessert options and the ever-popular Nespresso machine.
After linking up with the families of two student-athletes, Elizabeth Kitley and Cayla King, the Tour moved on to the city of Rome where the bus passes such landmarks as the Ponte Sisto Bridge, Circus Maximus and Villa Borghese Park.

Switching to a walking tour, the group made its way through the city with the help of a guide. Stops along the tour included the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain where a team photo was taken and many coins were tossed into The Fountain.

Along the way, many members of the staff and indeed the student-athletes stopped for a bite of the local fare, mostly pizza and gelato before heading to the program's new headquarters in Rome.
Tomorrow, there will be free time in the morning and early afternoon where many members of the group will shop and walk around the city. In the late afternoon the Hokies will tour the Roman Forum as well as the Colosseum.
