BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams revealed the 2019 fall schedule Tuesday, a slate highlighted by four home invitationals at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, including the 2019 ACC Championships.
The ACC Championships return to Blacksburg for the first time since 2012. That season, the Virginia Tech men's team won the ACC title and former runner Will Mulherin took home the individual crown.
The Hokies open the season with back-to-back home meets for the fifth consecutive year. The Virginia Tech Invitational takes place on Friday, Sept. 6, followed by the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday, Sept. 20.
The Tech teams travel to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Pre-Nationals, which will be held Oct. 19. The Hokies then return to Blacksburg for the ACC Championships on Nov. 1.
Last season, Peter Seufer won the ACC's individual title, becoming the third runner in program history to win an ACC crown and the 11th individual conference champion overall. Seufer returns to defend his crown after a season in which he earned All-America honors. At last year's ACC Championships, the Tech men's team came in sixth. The Hokie women, led by Sara Freix's 13th-place finish, came in fifth in the team race.
The Hokies return home for their final home meet of the season – the Hokie Open – on Friday, Nov. 8.
Tech starts the postseason with the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 15 in Charlottesville, Virginia, with hopes of earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships. For teams that qualify, the 2019 NCAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
