Three Hokies compete in European Under 23 Championships over the weekend

Representing their various home countries over the weekend, the Virginia Tech track and field program saw Eszter Bajnok, Joel Leon Benitez and Emma Thor compete in the European U-23 Championships in Gavle, Sweden.
 
Thor had a strong start in the qualifying round of the hammer throw and was able to advance to the finals with her best mark of 60.26 meters (197 feet, 8 inches). In the finals, she finished with a throw of 63.10 meters (207 feet, 0 inches) to finish seventh.
 
For Benitez, it took clearing 5.20 meters (17 feet, 0.75) in the pole vault on his first attempt to secure a spot in the finals. At the finals, he finished the day with a clearance of 5.50 meters (18 ft, 0.5 inches) to finish sixth.
 
Bajnok, the Hokies all-time leader in the long jump and triple jump, advanced past the qualifying round in the triple jump with her leap of 12.97 meters (42 feet, 6.5 inches). In the finals Bajnok finished ninth with top mark of 12.93 meters (42 feet, 5.25 inches).
