GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Jason Kros caps his career with another honor along with juniors Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro as all three have been named to the 2019 Men's Tennis All-ACC Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.
Kros' honor caps off a standout senior season in which he was named All-ACC Second Team, ITA National Most Improved Senior as well as ITA Atlantic Region Most Improve Senior and ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year. In addition, Kros represented the Hokies at the NCAA Singles Championships. The Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise major posted a 26-16 overall record this season en route to a No. 70 national ranking as he picked up three wins over ranked opponents, all against ACC foes during spring duals. Kros also had a solid double season with a 21-8 tally.
Korsgaard, who earned All-ACC Third Team honors, resided primarily at the two spot for most of the season, finishing with a 13-5 record while going 21-8 on the year. He posted an impressive win against #44 Duke, toppling Spencer Furman (No. 114), 6-2, 6-2. The management major also posted wins against ranked teams Notre Dame (No. 16), Miami (No. 24), and Florida State (No. 31). In doubles, Korsgard posted a 20-13 record on the year.
Ribeiro spent most of the dual season at the three where he went 6-5 as part of a 14-14 overall record on the year. The management major was 20-15 overall in doubles with a 10-10 tally in the spring.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
