Virginia Tech Athletics external areas receive national recognition

Several members of the Virginia Tech Athletics external team were honored with national and regional awards last week, as presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).

Through CoSIDA, the strategic communications and the graphic and web design offices earned best in nation honors for two submissions including the best cover for the 2018-19 men's basketball media guide (university division – Division I schools) and a third-place finish in the category of overall women's basketball media guide (university division). John Sours (associate director, graphic and web design) and Bill Dyer (associate director, strategic communications) collaborated on the men's basketball cover, while Sours, Dave Knachel (senior director, photography and design) and Carter W. Brown (assistant director, strategic communications) all played roles in putting together the women's basketball guide.

Through NACMA, the Virginia Tech marketing team took second place for Multi-Platform Branding Campaign (the Exit Light, Enter Night visual identity) and third place for Season Ticket Sales Campaign (football season ticket campaign).

Also, Jimmy Robertson, senior director for content creation, won a district award for an entry in the Fred S. Stabley CoSIDA Writing Contest. Robertson's story entitled "Tech Athletics Involved in Creating Revolutionary Blood Test for Concussions" was named the top general feature in District 3, which comprises schools from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
