Hokie trio earn All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech's Carrie Eberle earned ACC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Eberle, Caitlyn Nolan and Jayme Bailey made the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league office Thursday.

Eberle becomes the first Hokie to earn the award since 2008, when Angela Tincher won it in its first year of existence. Nolan and Bailey make it for the first time in their careers.

Getting it done on and off the field, all three players boasted better than a 3.0 GPA and were named to either the ACC all-conference or NFA all-region (Mid-Atlantic) teams.

Eberle, the ACC Pitcher of the Year, boasted a 25-8 record, 1.84 ERA and 164 strikeouts. The all-time single-season leader in home runs at Tech, Nolan, owned a .299 batting average, 19 home runs and 55 RBIs. Bailey turned in a .380 batting average, second-best on-base percentage in Tech history with a .497 clip and 44 runs scored.

The three were instrumental in Tech winning the Coastal Division title and ACC regular-season crown, while leading the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
