Strouth, Trull earn All-America honors from Softball America

Softball America Release

DURHAM, N.C. – Softball America released its inaugural All-America teams on Wednesday and two Virginia Tech softball players found their names on the prestigious list, as Emma Strouth was named a third-team All-American and Darby Trull was tabbed All-America honorable mention.

The list, broken down with three teams and an honorable mention section, was made up of 20 players on each team. Out of the ACC, No. 4/5 Florida State (55-10, 19-5 ACC) and the No. 22/21 Hokies (47-11, 20-4) led the way with the most picks with two apiece, while Virginia (22-31, 8-16) and Notre Dame (37-18, 18-6) each had one selection.

Strouth had one of the best seasons ever at the plate by a Hokie, setting two school records with 68 RBIs and 50 runs scored. The North Carolina native also belted a .404 batting average with 13 home runs, picking up first-team All-ACC and first-team NFCA All-Region (Mid-Atlantic).

Trull, who was Virginia Tech's Most Improved Athlete at the Gobblers last month, was a first-team NFCA All-Region (Mid-Atlantic) selection after she turned in a .406 batting average, 37 RBIs and seven home runs. The sophomore also had a knack for showing her range in center, getting 62 putouts.

The two were key in one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history, helping Tech win 24 more games than it did the previous season. On its way to 47 wins, the pair led the Hokies to a regular-season ACC crown, a Coastal Division title and an NCAA Regional.
