Nine Hokies named to All-ACC Academic team

ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nine members of Virginia Tech's track and field teams have been named to the ACC's All-Academic team, as announced on Thursday by the league office.

The Men's team collected five honors, highlighted by Peter Seufer who has been tabbed to the all-academic team for the third time of his career. Seufer is coming off an indoor season that saw him win the 3,000-meter run and finish second in the 5,000 meters at the ACC Indoor Championships. Diego Zarate was named to the academic squad for the second time, while Matthew Manilli, Bashir Mosavel-Lo and Harrison Rice earned honors for the first time.

The women's team earned four honors and is highlighted by ACC Indoor champion and two-time honoree Sarah Edwards. Edwards is a three-time all-American and finished sixth in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Shannon Quinn was named to the academic team for the second time, while Sara Freix and Catherine Stone earned it for the first time.

The minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes each conference student-athlete with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.

Select student-athletes are slated to compete at the Tennessee Challenge this weekend as the Hokies close their regular season.
