Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG, VA. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated Louisville 4-3 on Friday afternoon to tally an ACC win at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Tech (5-7, 1-3 ACC) secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts. On court one, Natalie Novotna and Rita Pinto got the 6-2 win. Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin picked up a tiebreaker win on court two, 7-6(4) while on court three, Samantha Gillas and Elizabet Danailova secured a 7-6(3) decision.
Natalie Novotna pushed the Hokies to a 2-0 lead as she picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win on court one, knocking off Sena Suswam. Louisville answered by picking up wins on courts five and two to tie the match at 2 all.
The Hokies regained the advantage off of Nina Sorkin on court six where she won the first set 6-2. Louisville's Diana Wong came back to win the second 6-3, but Sorkin rallied for the third to take it 6-2, giving the Hokies a 3-2 lead.
Samantha Gillas secured the team win on court three after giving up the first set 6-1 to Aleksandra Mally. The Hokies' freshman rallied to take the next two sets, 6-4, 7-5.
The Hokies will be back on the court Sunday, April 7 for an 11 a.m. match against No. 50 Notre Dame.
