Tech falters in final game at No. 22 Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Much like the first two games of the ACC baseball series between Virginia Tech and No. 22 Miami, runs were at a premium in the final contest at Mark Light Field on Sunday afternoon. The Hurricanes made the most of its five hits, which including a two-run home run, that lifted them to the 2-0 victory.

Both starters combined to allow just five hits and the only runs of the game in their times on the mound, while the bullpen arms for both teams continued the trend, as a combined seven allowed five hits and no runs over 8.2 relief innings.

Tech (24-21, 7-17 ACC) sent out starter Nic Enright, who retired the first 10 Hurricanes he faced before Anthony Vilar drew a one-out walk. Adrian Del Castillo then followed with a two-run home run over the left field fence and Miami took a 2-0 lead.

Enright (1-2) tossed 4.0 innings and struck out seven batters on the day. It was his the third straight game and the fourth overall in his career that he's struck out at least seven in a game.

Miami (31-14, 14-10 ACC) saw its starter Tyler Keysor also strike out seven in 4.2 innings of work, but a two-out single by Jonah Seagears chased him in the fifth as the Hurricanes turned the game over to their bullpen as well.

Kevin Madden was the only Hokie with two hits, using one to set up a first-and-third, one-out situation in the sixth. However, reliever JP Gates got the final two outs of the frame to end the threat.

Madden recorded his second single to lead off the ninth. Pinch hitter August Haymaker drew a two-out walk to get the tying run on base, but Miami's Daniel Federman got the final out to pick up his seventh save of the year.
