Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kerry Blackshear Jr. have been named second team All-State in voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) on Friday.
Alexander-Walker, a sophomore from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, led the Hokies in scoring (16.2 ppg) and steals (64) this past season. He was named third team All-ACC. He scored in double figures in 29 of the Hokies 35 games, 12 of which were 20-or-more points.
Blackshear, a redshirt junior from Orlando, Florida, led the team in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and was second in scoring (14.9 ppg). He was named second team All-ACC and All-District by the USBWA. He led the team with nine double-doubles this season. He scored in double figures in 26 games this past season.
The Hokies earned a school-best third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this season, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1967. Tech finished with a 26-9 overall record and 12-6 in ACC action. The 26 overall victories and 12 conference wins are new school records.
The University of Virginia's Kyle Guy was named Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and head coach Tony Bennett was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. William & Mary's Chase Audige was recognized as Rookie of the Year.
Named to the All-State First Team were Guy, De'Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome of Virginia, Nathan Knight of William & Mary and B.J. Stith of ODU. Joining Blackshear and Alexander Walker on the second team were Ahmad Culver of ODU, Marcus Evans of VCU and Jermaine Marrow of Hampton.
