BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team made strides once again in 2018-19, accumulating 22 wins, placing a student-athlete on the ACC's first team for the first time ever and seeing one athlete drafted to the WNBA in early April, with another signing with a franchise to join them in camp.

Tech won six league games for the second consecutive season and advanced deep into the postseason with the program's fourth straight WNIT appearance.

Below is a look at the noteworthy records and achievements that the team, and individuals accomplished this season.

Team

  • Set the single season record for 3's made with 324, smashing the mark of the 2017-18 team which made 295.
  • The squad also set a new single game record for 3's in the 93-39 victory against Longwood, knocking down 16. Dara Mabrey made five, Kendyl Brooks, Taylor Emery and Aisha Sheppard each made three and Trinity Baptiste added one in that contest.

Individuals

  • She set the single season rebound record, pulling down 435 boards. It is the highest single season tally in the ACC record.
  • Already the program's leader in rebounds at the start of the season, Magarity graduates with 1,299 rebounds which is also an ACC record.
  • Became the fifth Hokie to be drafted to the WNBA, when she was chosen with pick number 33 to the Connecticut Sun in the 2019 WNBA Draft.

Dara Mabrey

  • Freshman Dara Mabrey made the most 3's in a single season at Virginia Tech with her 80. She was named to the ACC's All-Freshman Team

Taylor Emery

  • Emery has signed to play for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA.

In addition, four players finish the season in the top 10 of 3-point shooting of all-time. Kendyl Brooks (160) ranks fourth, Taylor Emery (146) is sixth, Aisha Sheppard (135) is eighth and Regan Magarity's 101 is good for a tie for 10th.

Coach Brooks

  • Brooks coached his Hokies to another 20-win season, the program's third consecutive season with that total. What's more, Brooks has enjoyed 14 straight seasons of 20 or more wins dating back to his time at his alma mater, JMU.
  • He continued his perfect start to the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, defeating Rutgers at home on November 28, 2018. In each of his three seasons in Blacksburg, the Hokies have won their game in that competition.
  • Brooks notched career win number 400 at the ACC tournament, defeating Wake Forest easily in the first round.

The senior class
