Women's golf finishes program-best sixth at ACC Championship

Saturday - Round 3

The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a three-round score of 896 and finished in sixth place at the 31st Annual ACC Women's Golf Championship on Saturday afternoon. The three-day event was played at the 6,089-yard, par 72 Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
 
The tournament schedule was altered due to inclement weather in the area on Friday. The first two rounds were contested on Thursday and the final round was played as scheduled on Saturday. 
 
Tech shot a 5-over 293 in the Thursday morning round and followed that with a 295 in the afternoon round on Thursday. Tech finished with a 308 on Saturday.
 
The sixth-place finish is the best in program history, surpassing 11thplace finishes in each of the past two years. The Hokies were seeded 10th entering the tournament and defeated four teams ranked higher that Tech in the Golfstat.com rankings, as of the beginning of the tournament.
 
Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, led the Hokies. She shot a 4-over 220 and tied for 14thplace. She finished 15 strokes behind medalist Emilia Migliaccio of Wake Forest.
 
Emily Mahar, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia and Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, tied for 26thplace at 225. Keera Foocharoen, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 38thplace with a 228 and Jessica Spicer, a junior from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 44that 229.
 
Wake Forest won the team title with a 14-under 850, eight strokes ahead of Florida State and 18 strokes ahead of Duke. Virginia was fourth at 870 and Louisville was fifth at 890, six strokes ahead of the Hokies. Clemson was seventh at 900, Miami was eighth at 901 and North Carolina and NC State tied for ninth at 902. Notre Dame was 11that 913 and Boston College was 12that 918. 
 
The Hokies will now wait for the NCAA selection show on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on Golf Channel. The Hokies made their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance last season in just their third year of competition.

Thursday - Rounds 1 & 2

The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a two-round score of 12-over 588 and is in fifth place entering the final round of the 31st Annual ACC Women's Golf Championship on Thursday. The three-day event is being played at the 6,089-yard, par 72 Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
 
Due to expected inclement weather on Friday, conference officials decided to play the first and second rounds on Thursday. There will be no play on Friday and the final round will be played as scheduled on Saturday. 
 
Seeded 10thentering the tournament, Tech shot a 5-over 293 in the morning round and followed that with a 295 in the afternoon round on Thursday.
 
Emily Mahar, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, leads the Hokies with a 146 and is tied for 13thplace. She trails leader Emilia Migliaccio of Wake Forest by nine strokes.
 
Jessica Spicer, a junior from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 18that 147. The trio of Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, Keera Foocharoen, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand and Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, are all tied for 22ndplace at 148. Spicer had an eagle 2 on the 334-yard, par 4 No. 11 in the morning round.
 
Wake Forest holds the leads after the first two rounds. The Demon Deacons are at 9-under 567, 10 strokes ahead of Florida State and 13 strokes ahead of Virginia. Duke is fourth at 581, seven strokes ahead of the Hokies. Louisville is sixth at 591, North Carolina is seventh at 596, Boston College is eight at 599 and Miami is ninth at 600. Clemson is 10that 608, Notre Dame is 11that 610 and NC State is 12that 611.
