Hokies fall to No. 22 Wake Forest

BLACKSBURG  – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell to No. 22 Wake Forest 5-2 on Friday afternoon, but junior Natalie Novotna knocked off nation's No. 31 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.  
 
Novontna, ranked No. 124, had a big win on the day, getting the point for the Hokies in the process. On court one, Novonta squared off against No. 31 Emma Davis where the Tech player claimed the opening set 6-4. Davis took the second set by the same margin, but Novotna powered back in the third to secure the win 6-4.
 
Wake Forest got out to the early lead after claiming the doubles point with wins on courts two and three, but Novotna paired up with Rita Pinto to pick up a 6-4 win on court one.
 
The Demon Deacons clinched the team win early in singles, taking the matches on courts three, six and two.
 
Pinto also picked up a win on court five, 6-7(1), 6-4 after Wake's Chandler Carter retired the match.
 
The Hokies will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, April 14 when the Hokies host No. 1 North Carolina. Tech will also recognize senior Sarah Baron prior to the match.
