LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team claimed an ACC road win on Friday afternoon, defeating Louisville, 4-2 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Tech (16-7, 6-5 ACC) fell behind after doubles as the Cardinals (15-12, 3-9 ACC) secured the point with wins on courts two and three.
The Hokies quickly got on the board in singles with a decisive straight set win from Henrik Korsgard as he downed Brandon Lancaster 6-3, 6-2 on court two. Louisville reclaimed the lead with a win at one, but the Hokies tied it up at two as freshman Evan Fragistas notched the win at six knocking off Alex Wesbrooks 7-6(6), 6-2.
Virginia Tech secured the match with two Hokies who rallied after giving up their first sets. Freshman Brandon Perez got shutout in his opening set against Frederico Gomez, but powered back to win the next two 6-4, 6-2.
In the clinching match, Carlo Donato dropped the first set 6-3 to Fabien Salle. The Hokies sophomore answered as he won sets two and three 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
The Hokies will be back on the court Sunday when they make the trip to Charlottesville to face in-state rival No. 5 Virginia. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in the 529 Commonwealth Clash contest.
