Hokies rout Radford 23-8 in annual pink game Sunday afternoon

BLACKSBURG – Radford scored the opening goal of the game, but the Hokies went on to score seven straight goals and the Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team did not look back as they scored a program record-tying 23 for the second game in a row.

"I think this is the most points we've ever had," head coach John Sung said. From an offensive standpoint, I thought the team played very well and we were very unselfish today. I think the 18 assists we had, are the most we've had since I've been at Tech. Transition goals were a big thing for us today. We wanted to shoot the ball 30 plus times and we did that as we took 41 shots. From an overall game plan, our kids really executed."

The Hokies (4-3, 0-1) broke the school record for points in a single game with 41 and they also broke the Tech record for assists in a game with 18.

The team was led by midfielders Paige Petty, Emma Crooks and Mary Claire Byrne who combined for 15 points. Crooks and Petty both scored five goals for the second-consecutive game to go along with one assist for Crooks and a career-high three assists for Petty.

In goal, Morgan Berman had another solid day as the sophomore tallied two saves, picked up three ground balls and forced one turnover.

Elena Ricci picked up three ground balls for the Hokies and won a career-high nine draw controls on the afternoon.

Offensively, the Highlanders (1-2) were led by Juliette Ruland who had three goals and Lindsey Carroll who had two goals and one assist.

Maddie Bowman led the Highlanders with four saves.
