Hokies defeat William & Mary, 5-2

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team clinched a 5-2 decision over non-conference foe William & Mary on Monday evening at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
 
Tech (9-5) fell behind after the Tribe (0-10) claimed the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. The Hokies' Jason Kros and Brandon Perez did pick up a 6-1 decision at two.
 
William & Mary went up 2-0 with a win on court six in singles, but Henrik Korsgaard got the Hokies on the board as he defeated Sebastian Quiros 6-4, 6-6(1) on two.
 
Tech knotted the match with a win from Alex Ribeiro at three where he battled past Finbar Talcott. Ribeiro won the opening set 6-3, but fell by the same margin in the second. He came powering back in the third set to shut-out Talcott 6-0.
 
Carlo Donato put the Hokies on top 3-2 as he knocked off Oren Vasser. Winning the first set 6-2, Donato gave up the second one 6-3. The Tech sophomore responded to give up just one game in the third, taking it 6-1.
 
The match was clinched for the Hokies by 58th-ranked Kros on court one. After giving up the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6(3), Kros rallied to win the next two 6-1, 6-4.
 
Brandon Perez rounded out the scoring for the Hokies with the win at five, rallying to defeat Jack Kelly 5-7, 7-6(1), 6-2.
 
The Hokies will be back on the court Wednesday, March 13 when they host Duke in a 1:30 p.m. midweek ACC match.
